100 million digicams shipped in 2006, trends is up
According to Lyra Research, global shipments shipments of digital cameras increased over 20% in 2006 to almost 100 million units despite the fact that over half of all households in Japan, the US, and many Western European nations now have digital cameras, and also in spite of all those multimegapixel camera phones (heck, we're not surprised -- they still take hideous pictures). Fujifilm unveils new cameras at CES
At the 2007 CES in Law Vegas, Fujifilm unveiled several new digital cameras. Among them are the Finepix A610, an updated version of the A600 with a larger display, improved metering, and faster movie frame rate; the new FinePix A800 with an 8.3 megapixel imager and ISO 800 sensitivity for just US$179; a new F-series camera, the 8.3 megapixel F40fd with face recognition technology, IS communication, ISO 2000 sensitivity and a much higher resolution LCD; and finally the speciality-market IS-1, an alternate light camera based on Fujifilm's Finepix S3 Pro, but capable of capturing the infrared spectrum. All of the new cameras also benefit from a simplified, improve dmenu system and, best of all, they can now accept SD Cards in addition to xD-Picture cards! -- Posted Monday, January 8, 2007 by chb
